Muktinath Krishi Company Limited, a pioneer public company in the agriculture sector, was established in 2018 envisioning a gradual change in the value chain and supply chain of agri-inputs transforming the country towards the path of self-sufficiency. The present scenario exposes the transformation Nepalese agriculture is going through, from subsistence towards commercialization, mildly and gradually at a time. This is being achieved through advances in mechanization, better knowledge transfer, quality inputs (seeds, fertilizers, pesticides) availability, and better crop stand. MKCL is linked up with every point of chain that is binding commercialization in Nepal. From seeds to the kitchen table, MKCL shows its valued presence.
The core strength of MKCL lies in its Technical Department which acts as the knowledge center that reviews and recommends the products the company is to launch, their necessity, suitability, and the impact they have in Nepal's context, be it seeds, fertilizers, or pesticides. It provides on-site and on-call problem diagnosis and solution to the farmers and routinely carries out advanced training on various aspects of agriculture. It also looks upon the two Research & Development Farms of the company located at Syangja and Lalitpur. Constant trials of vegetable seeds, pesticides, and fertilizers are being conducted in these farms with the direct supervision of agri-graduates and breeders.
On account of little land size, inaccessibility of the other business openings in the country, a greater part of farmers in the nation is constrained to adopt subsistence farming. Because of the low investment limit and the absence of foundation and market openings, the dominant part of farmers is adopting traditional farming in their production system. The pattern of youngsters leaving Nepal for foreign employment is expanding each year. In this context, there is an urgent need for appropriate agricultural mechanization in Nepal.

The origins of Muktinath Krishi Company Limited (MKCL) find its root in Muktinath Bikas Bank Limited (MNBBL). The MNBBL was established on 3rd January 2007 with a principle “Janata Bank ma hoina, Bank Janata ma Janupardachha” or “People do not come to Bank, Bank should go to them” with a motto of providing three types of banking services viz. Modern Banking, Limited Banking and Micro Credit. Leaving behind the long held traditional beliefs that financial institution are operated in urban areas only, with the rich having more access to it, MNBBL has been catering banking services of every kind since its inception ,to every class of people, through every possible means. The Bank has a special wing for Micro-Credit finance which is a model for micro banking activities throughout the development banks in Nepal. Through its micro banking activities the institution has been catering services to more than 150,000 members and their households with access to finance, financial literacy, business literacy, insurance etc. The majority of members mostly reside in rural areas with agricultural being their major occupation. The Bank had been promoting its members for commercialization of agriculture. While providing the mentioned services to the members, the major cry being the lack of market, good inputs and latest technology for farming.
